Our trip from San Diego to Los Angeles was a pleasant prelude to the journey that lay before us. Our driver, Kenny, could have easily passed for chef Duff better known as the “Ace of Cakes” on the Food Network. What was amazing were the similarities not only in looks, but in mannerisms as well. His laugh, smile, and gracious wackiness were only missing the goatee and I guess a chainsaw or drill.
The voyage spanning the North American continent from LAX over Saskatchewan and Manitoba, over Greenland to London was LONG and the most taxing part of the journey thus far. Cramped, with seat cushions akin to slightly softened cardboard our seats took a toll on all of our tailbones. I suppose you could say that our seats taxed our seats. Mind you, I’m not complaining, just being frank. Our four hour wait in Heathrow airport started with a change in our ticketed travel, now stopping in Zagreb with an additional layover leaving at 9:40pm arriving at 11:00 pm, then after getting our bags another 40 minute drive to our residence. Again, I’m not complaining, as the group who came to Croatia before us with weather delays had a 46 hour trip to our same destination. Once again, I am just being frank. God knew all these things He set before us, and we are thankful thus far for safe fare.
Speaking of fare, our simple meal on Croatia Airlines was refreshing and absolutely AMAZING. Two small slices of chicken with garbanzos in a tomato sauce, with incredible feta cheese and sparse chopped green olives in olive oil. A roll, with sweet unsalted butter was delectable and the small pastry with some sort of slightly sweet nut mixture was WONDERFUL. The meal was simple and a taste of refreshment for weary souls. Anticipation rises in my soul as we make our near final legs of our trip. There is a sweet refreshment as we get a nibble of what awaits us.
Our final leg and arrival here was sweet and wonderful. Finally getting to meet Kent, Cheri and Herjove (pronounced Hervoy) finally finding our rooms. The SHORT trip to Trogir was a huge blessing after all the stuff we went through including an unexpected change with an additional stop in Zagreb before arrival in Split. If this entry doesn’t sound as crisp as my previous, that is because we are no crisp ourselves, but joyfully refreshed from within for the blessings of God, faithful to bring us here, safely, a bit sore but grateful. We have experienced many things, hard ones (like our seats) and an extra stop on our last leg of the trip. And blessed ones, building more teamwork and enjoying delicious, home made chicken noodle soup and final fellowship. It has been a varied voyage.
By now you are all sleeping soundly. Sending hugs
